Learning to Fail explores the positive lessons I’ve learned from failure.
Failure can teach us to transmute good from an unpleasant experience or outcome; Develop the courage to face a challenge without being paralyzed by what might happen; Gain the tenacity to be bad at something until we become good at it.
Every color, shape, and organism presented collectively symbolize the growth, resilience, and peace of mind gained through failure.
At first glance, the phrase Learning to Fail might appear to describe an act of deliberate self-sabotage. However, as with the other pieces in this series, a person might come away with a very different meaning by adjusting their perspective.
All of us are imperfect, and as a result, we all experience failure. Sometimes repeatedly. So how can we deal with such fallings?
Again I took note of a lesson observed in a mechanism within the natural world.
A complex yet beautifully balanced process ensues when a tree falls in a forest. Thousands of organisms ranging from insects like termites to microbes like fungi come together and begin to break down the fallen tree. All of these work together to unleash the hidden energy stores with the fallen tree. As a result, this valuable energy is released back into the forest, contributing to its continued growth and expansion.
A tree falling in the forest is very much like a failure. However, if we remember that we are not a single tree but a forest, we can learn to unlock the hidden energy within us that allows us to transmute good from an unpleasant experience or outcome. Then like the forest a failing, or falling, will only serve to facilitate growth.
We will have successfully learned to fail.
