Of Lane and Lexi.
I'll never forget this trip.
October 2019, after driving 12 hours, my wife and I finally reached our destination. We arrived late in the evening amid a heavy snowstorm at a small studio apartment situated above an art gallery. The gallery was located just outside of Colorado Springs and two very close friends of ours were renting the living space above the gallery. It was a long overdue trip to visit this special couple who are like our brother and sister.
After our long drive, we were tired. Still, when saw our friends, we were suddenly energized and ended up talking late into the night. The next morning the woods surrounding the gallery were covered with a silent layer of freshly fallen snow. Fortunately, I had brought my camera. So, armed with my 16mm lens I stepped out to capture the beauty surrounding the quaint gallery. My aim was to somehow capture the beauty around me while communicating the sense of peace and belonging I felt.
At a certain point, I noticed that my wife along with my friend had joined me, taking pictures of their own. At this moment the sense of peace and belonging deepened within me. When I turned to look up at the trees, I saw my friends reflected in them-Humble Giants.
Though impressive in the stature of their intelligence, skill, and beauty, they don't domineer over others. Rather, in their presence, others feel at peace.
Even more, is what they do for their friends, probably without even realizing it. I know this because it is what they have done for me. With unassuming grace, they dignify and inspire me to stand taller.
I've been blessed to know many people like this throughout my life. However, this picture preserves a memory specifically about those two dear friends.
